The Little, Little Trailer Goes to Girl Camp!

The Little, Little Trailer was born to roll.

There's only so much 'parked under cover' time she can take before she just has to pull on her baby moons, plug in the road-trip tunes,  and hit the highway. Even if it's that long and winding highway she has to take in order to get anywhere.

She can handle dangerous curves, cuz she has some of her own. (Has to be why Sum Boyz Whistle when she goes by.)

One day, The Little, Little Trailer is out taking a wander, when--

'OMG! Look what's up ahead--a whole tribe of other Little Trailers, and they seem to be having a powwow! Let's pull in--maybe the natives are friendly!'

So The Little, Little Trailer turns in by a sign that says GIRL CAMP. Where she receives the greatest welcome ever!

The other Little Trailers all rush out to greet her like she's their long-lost BFF.

'Stay here, with us!' they declare. 'There's room! We'll help you park and set up!'

No way can she pass this up! TLLT accepts the invitation to stay at Girl Camp and gets down to the business of getting herself parked, blocked and leveled.

Whatever these other Little Trailers are up to, it's got to be out of the ordinary.

And it is! Not only does TLLT get a fabulous next-door neighbor, who's nicer than the Welcome Wagon lady, but the other Little Trailers also come right on over for a campfire and some cocktails.

Ahhh, this is the life. GIRL CAMP--TLLT's new favorite cool place!

The Best Girl Camping Experience Is...Getting to Know You

When you first get into the vintage-trailer camping hobby, it tends to be all about the trailer--finding it, fixing it, decorating it to suit yourself.

(Here's my adored '68 Oberlin, going onto a flatbed for a 1,200-mile transport after I bought her sight-unseen.)

What I didn't know, upon venturing into the trailer-ite realm, was the extent to which it would become about the people I would meet and gain as new friends.

In fact, when I overnighted alone (above), on the way to my initial group campout, I felt darn-near invisible. Not to mention dwarfed by the humongous, house-like RVs that most folks choose to own. (I had a trailer that was shorter than my truck!)

But when I got to the actual campout, I wasn't alone at all--I had instant new friends! Miss Grace, for instance (above), came right on over to introduce herself and tour my trailer, and we have been fast friends ever since.

I met Miss Raunie, a fellow Idahoan--on her birthday, no less! Now I always look forward to seeing her   at campouts and catching up with a fishtail (Raunie's signature cocktail.)

Here I am after meeting Miss Margaret (on the right), who introduced me to the concept of 'camping silver' (old silver serving pieces kept just for dressing camping meals up to the nines). Loved it!

Eventually, Girl Camp evolved, and with it, more new friendships (Miss DeeAnn on the left, Miss Toni on the right). Yes, the guests all bring their darling trailers for long weekends, but the best part is hanging out together as friends who enjoy each other's company.

Now you know the real reason why we have the Girl Camping blog, and the Girl Camping Facebook page--as opened doors for the friendship factor and getting to know more of you.

Thanks for accepting the invitation!

A Dose of Mental Vitamin F (Fun) From Girl Camp

Moms of the '50s always told us kids to 'go make your own fun.' At Girl Camp, that's exactly what we do.

If there's a birthday (and there usually is,) it gets celebrated in the most glittering way possible.

Like when Girl Camping Girl's hubby turned 50, and asked for an Airstream cake...he got one. With 12 girls in tiaras to serve it to him.

The acclaimed and highly coveted 'redneck wine glass' delivers liquid fun on demand.

The mental vitamin F is dispensed from several areas of activity, and we try our best not to let anyone get lost trying to find them.

The vitamin F from an afternoon on the water is worth the 5-minute drive to get there from G. Camp.

MAJOR mental vitamin F from seeing lots of vintage travel trailers all in one place and all lovingly personalized.

Not to mention---it's also quite finely fun to be part of the most amazing drive-by attraction of the year in Elk River, Idaho--pop. 156.
